Practical, sensible, and economical are descriptive words that come to mind when you sail an Island Packet 27. She’s roomy and comfortable. She’s traditional and seaworthy. Oh, and look, she is a centerboard equipped boat with unbelievable shallow water capabilities. “Perfect” is how you’ll describe her.
Sandpiper is one of those rare boats that come along once in a while that has been tenderly cared for, day in and day out. So much so that she looks like a brand new boat.  Keep in mind that she was built in 1987 and you’ll be considerably impressed. Her teak interior is oiled and complemented with a neutral tan upholstery. On deck Sandpiper has a dodger, awning, and custom davits for handling the dinghy. Her rebuilt Yanmar diesel has only 600 hours. Her new fuel and holding tanks are replacement aluminum tanks.

Accommodations:

Berths for six are provided in the V-berth (2), port settee (1), starboard settee (2), and aft quarter berth (1). The cabins are finished with tan fabric cushions and her teak woodwork is oiled. She has custom portside teak cabinets and galley locker. Bomar opening ports and hatches allow for comfortable cross-ventilation. The starboard settee converts to a double berth. Forward of the main cabin you will find the master stateroom with head and shower located just aft to starboard.

Galley

The galley is equipped with a top-loading insulated icebox which is refrigerated. The stainless steel alcohol stove has 2 burners and is a non-pressurized Origo 4000 model. Completing the galley setup is a stainless steel sink, hot and cold pressure water, and plenty of storage in cabinets both above and below the work surfaces.

Head

A reliable Raritan marine head is provided, along with hot and cold pressure water. Hot water is supplied electrically by a hot water heater when dockside and via a heat exchanger from the engine when underway. A vanity and sink provide easy to clean surfaces. A 20-gallon holding tank may be emptied via a dockside pump out or discharged via a y-valve, manual pump, and thru hull. A Tankwatch holding tank alert/monitor is included.

Electrical

Sandpiper has both 110V AC and 12V DC services. The 110-volt AC shore power provides dockside service for hot water, the upgraded Freedom 20 inverter/battery charging system, multiple outlets in the galley, head, and each cabin. The 12-volt DC system has 3 AGM batteries connected by selector switches in the nav station for isolating batteries or combining them. Both the 110V and 12V service panels are equipped with breaker switches at the electrical panel.

Three Group 27 AGM glass mat 12-volt batteries for house bank and one deep cycle for engine starting.

Electronics

Sandpiper is equipped with Datamarine knot and depth meters, Gemini compass, Raytheon ST4000+ autopilot. Standard VHF radio with a cockpit remote mic. And cockpit pedestal mounted GPS.

Sails and Rigging

Harken Roller furling for 130% headsail. The full-batten mainsail has jiffy reefing and Lazy Jacks, with all lines and sail controls at the mast. Large Lewmar self-tailing primary winches, and cabintop traveler make sail adjustments easy.

Safety Equipment and Accessories

Sandpiper is a very capable and accommodating sailboat. Her “miscellaneous” list includes all the required Coast Guard safety equipment, one plow and one standard Danforth anchor with chain and rode, SS swim ladder on the transom, folding SS dinghy davits with Sieman’s SP65 solar panel (65 watts, 3.7 amps), lazyjacks for the mainsail, Lewmar self tailing primary winches, a Sunbrella Toast dodger and awning, manual bilge pump in the cockpit, electric automatic bilge pump, pedestal mounted folding teak cockpit table, and 2 solar vent fans.
