The Catalina 28 may be the perfect boat for the sailor new to cruising - she's designed to offer the space and amenities you might expect in a larger boat, with the ease of handling and lower cost of a sub-30-footer. She sails well, with a well-balanced sail plan, making her easy to handle and fun. A comfortable cabin, roomy cockpit, and convenient swim platform round out the package. There is excellent factory support, an active owner’s group and parts and services are readily available.

Kittiwake is a well-maintained example that's already equipped with the gear you'll need - GPS, hot and cold pressure water, cockpit cushions, and a wing keel that makes exploring easy and safe.

Accommodations:

The interior layout includes two genuine double berths - one forward in the V-berth and one aft, under the cockpit. A large hatch in the forward cabin, along with opening ports along both sides of the salon, provides ventilation. With facing settees and a large folding table, there's room for everyone to enjoy dinner. The galley is to starboard, and the head to port includes a shower. Forward of the head is the nav station, under which hides the icebox.

Galley

The galley has everything you need for cooking aboard, with a gimballed 2-burner Hillerange propane stove, microwave, hot and cold pressure water, and a fold-up counter for additional space.

Head

In keeping with the rest of the boat, the head is larger than you'd expect, and includes a Jabsco marine head with holding tank, as well as plenty of room to shower.

Deck and Hull

On deck, Kittiwake is set up for sailing. Her wide side decks, teak hand rails, and dual lifelines make going forward safe and secure. The T-shaped cockpit is surprisingly spacious, and there is a walk-through transom and swim platform for boarding from the water or a dinghy. A bimini provides protection from the sun or rain. There is a full set of cockpit cushions in excellent condition.

Sails and Rigging

All sail controls are led aft to the cockpit for ease of handling. Lewmar 30 primary and Lewmar 16 cabintop self-tailing winches provide the mechanical advantage for controlling the sails. The headsail is a Doyle 150% genoa with UV panels on a Hood furler, while the main is a traditional setup with cover.

Mechanical

The Universal M3-20 diesel engine provides 18 hp and has logged 477 hours.

Safety Equipment and Accessories

Kittiwake's equipment list includes a spotlight, spare parts including belts and filters, and two anchors with rode.
